Colombia. The oil company Ecopetrol granted the paint manufacturer Pintuco a license for the commercialization of a new technology to repair and reinforce pipes that transport crude and refined by pipelines and polyducts, which also functions as a protection mechanism against external corrosion.
Under the name MCO-R, this organic composite technology is implemented to mechanically reinforce or recover metal pipes of any diameter, up to a loss of thickness due to external corrosion of 70%.
Now Pintuco has the possibility to market the product in the national and international market if it considers it so. At the moment, it is known that two projects are being advanced to start applying MCO-R in Ecopetrol pipelines in the city of Barrancabermeja and in pipelines of Oxy, another of the main oil companies.
The product applies to all metal pipes of oil pipelines, polyducts, gas pipelines and aqueducts, as well as to installations that operate buried, aerial, submerged in water or at road crossings.
