International. PPG Industries recently launched a new electronic materials (EMG) manufacturing group following the expansion of its industrial coatings plant in Springdale, Pennsylvania.
This addition positions the company in the growing global market for electronics for conductive inks and coatings. The commissioning of the new cell marks the transfer of its business and technology from industrial coatings producer Spraylat Corp., which PPG acquired late last year.
"Conductive inks and coatings are great additions to our product family. They provide us with an avenue for a new, large and fast-growing market. These inks and coatings are sold in relatively small increments, but they are high-value products, which continue to increase demand around the world," said Glenn Thornley, chief operating officer of PPG.
Among the range of inks and conductive coatings, EMG will produce two new technologies – graphene and nanosilver conductive inks – for specialized electronics applications in the fields of medicine, automotive and telecommunications.
