Colombia. The Colombian paint market is projected to grow during 2013 by around 4%, and exceed the figures for $1.1 billion pesos per year that it registers.
This was explained by the local newspaper Portafolio, attributing this growth to an improvement in aspects such as infrastructure, remodeling, and housing, which generates a good part of the sales of the business.
These forecasts were made to the economic portal by the manager of Pintuco, Andrés Ortega Méndez, who for his company in 2012 left a growth of 9% in sales volume and 8% more if exports are added. "We had a similar behavior in operating income. We gained 1.2 points of market share," he explains.
The company Pintuco managed to obtain unconsolidated operating income of around $410.5 billion pesos (about US$245 million) and a net profit, exclusively in Colombia, of 29,175 million pesos (about US$15 million).
The incentives that the national government will provide for new housing in lower middle strata will also help boost the economy of this segment.
