International. A new antifouling technology has been developed for control in aggressive environments. The coating is designed to provide a self-polishing antifouling agent for extreme conditions.
The product developed by PPG Industries will go into the maintenance and repair market and uses the company's patented binder technology, which allows the control of scales during periods in service of up to 60 months. The product offers a high solids volume content of 70% and is suitable for a wide range of vessels.
"Aggressive hull fouling is a problem for ship owners operating in coastal and short sea shipping trade, where ships can be idle more than 50% of the time," said Sijmen Visser, global marketing director at PPG. "The coating has been specifically designed to offer high quality, with a self-polishing antifouling agent for vessels with low activity and/or for those operating in waters where fouling is a particular problem."
