United States. With the recent addition of Infiniti JX, Nissan Leaf and Nissan Rogue vehicles to its assembly lines in Smyrna, Tennessee, Nissan announced the opening of its most advanced paint plant.
The new facilities set new standards in the impact of quality, efficiency and the environment, as it can reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by 30% each, as well as VOC emissions by 70%.
The plant will use an innovative paint process known as "three-wet" that is applied to all three layers in succession, before the vehicle goes into the oven. The previous process required the vehicle to be cooked between the first application and the covering layers.
The 250,000-square-foot plant is located adjacent to the existing vehicle assembly plant in Tennessee and replaces the previous paint system that was used for about 30 years.
