United States. In a new study conducted by researchers Christian Schaller, Daniel Rogez and Adalbert Braig, different UV absorbers for water-based coatings were tested, analyzing their protective function in carpentry coatings, as well as their influence on their color and transparency.
The study notes that as a consequence of regulatory pressure to reduce solvent emissions, "compatible technologies" such as water-based coatings (BA) are on the rise. However, a shift from conventional solvent-based (SC) to BA technologies should not compromise the protective function of used coatings and raw materials. The use of light stabilizers such as UV absorbers (UVA) and light-impeding amine stabilizers (HALS) are the novelty and greatly improve coating durability and service life.
The challenge is to convert existing products that are, in general, hydrophobic substances into product forms that allow easy incorporation and dispersion without problems in BA systems.
