Mexico. Although in recent days the news of a mafia dedicated to the theft of resins for sale on the black market was known, distributors reported that the situation does not affect the paint industry, because so far there have only been thefts of thermofixed resins, used in the plastic industry.
In a dialogue with INPRA LATINA, the National Sales Manager of AP Resinas, Luis Devecchi, said that in the segment of resins for paints there has been no incident: "I have been in business for about three or four years and we have never had reports of problems like those in liquid resins."
He added that the prices of resins for paints have remained stable in 2011, despite the fact that last year there were unusual increases in some products. "The monomers we use are imported from the United States and prices have not gone up. There are also no problems with supply," Devecchi emphasized.
The complaint of theft of 46 thousand tons of resins, which at current prices generate losses of more than US $ 55 million was made during the National Forum of the Chemical Industry, held between October 27 and 28 in Mexico City.
Luis Devecchi also reported that at this time, obeying the usual market cycles, sales of vinyl acrylic resins for the formulation of architectural paints have risen, while those used to manufacture waterproofing fell.
