USA Paints and coatings company DAK Americas, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, established a specialty polymer business unit using DuPont's Polyester Crystar resin technology, which is used in the manufacture of nonwoven polyester monofilaments, packaging and other engineering products. The company will develop a new trade name for the material.Quiminet said the initial capacity for the material in the new unit is approximately 25 million pounds and expects to extend it to other DAK sites in the Americas, including: Cape Fear and Cedar Creek, North Carolina; Cooper River near Charleston, South Carolina; Cosoleacaque in Veracruz, Mexico; and Zarate, Argentina.
"The acquisition of these technologies further enhances DAK's capabilities and will allow it to extend its product offerings with the new specialty polymers business unit," said Hector Camberos, President and CEO of DAK Americas.
