Spain. Water-based technologies for automotive repainting have yet to improve their performance, according to a report presented by the Spanish Federation of Innovation and Technology Entities (Fedit), under the title of Observatory of the Chemical Sector, and which was reviewed by the portal autoprofesional.com.The document states that these products have encountered difficulties in some sectors, because the behavior or aesthetics they offer is not similar to that of solvent-based paints, or because they require a new investment in equipment. Among the problems outlined in the study "are the control of the foam, uneven and irregular surfaces, brightness and greater difficulty in controlling the dynamic properties of application, and spraying".
Fedit also assures that "the efforts of manufacturers are focused on overcoming these problems to formulate products with a good final quality, ease of application and good drying properties." To achieve this goal "and increase the use of water-based paints," the document concludes, "specific additives are being developed in sectors such as automotive repainting."
