Argentina. BASF signed an agreement with Genneia for the supply of electricity from renewable sources in all its production plants in Argentina. The contract establishes a provision of 100% renewable energy for a period of seven years, starting May 1, 2025, under the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER) scheme.
The supply will reach BASF's facilities in Burzaco and Tortuguitas, in the province of Buenos Aires, and in General Lagos and Santo Tomé, in the province of Santa Fe. The energy will be provided by Genneia's portfolio of renewable assets, consisting of wind and solar farms currently in operation.
"At BASF we are very proud to continue advancing in sustainability, as this agreement with Genneia will allow us to improve our operations in all our plants in Argentina, producing responsibly and using resources efficiently. In this way, we reaffirm our commitments to the environment and thus build an increasingly sustainable future and contribute to the green transformation of our customers," said Renata Milanese, BASF's general manager for Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The agreement aligns with BASF's global environmental goals, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
From Genneia, Gabriela Guzzo, senior commercial manager, said: "The growth of renewable energy in Argentina is possible thanks to companies such as BASF, which are committed to a more responsible production model. We are proud to accompany them on this path towards a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable energy matrix. This alliance reinforces our commitment to provide concrete solutions to decarbonize the industry and continue to promote the development of green energy in the country."
With this agreement, Genneia exceeds 60 corporate clients within the MATER, which include areas such as agribusiness, food, automotive, oil and gas, construction, transportation and laboratories. The company intends to achieve a renewable installation capacity of 1.7 GW by 2026, with a total of 15 wind farms in operation: eight wind farms and seven solar farms.
