Argentina. BASF, a chemical company known for its innovation, received ISO 50.001 certification at the General Lagos production plant, located in the province of Santa Fe.
ISO 50.001 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization that aims to establish, implement, maintain, and improve an energy management system (EMS) in an organization. In this way, the aim is for the company to be able to follow a systematic approach to achieve continuous improvement of energy performance and EMS.
Since 2017, the General Lagos plant has been working on the regional Triple E (Excellence in Energy Efficiency) program, which seeks the efficient use of energy. Since then, various improvement initiatives have been implemented, which have an expected energy consumption reduction impact of 14,000 MWh per year, equivalent to an expected annual saving of 2,900 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).
"With the implementation of the ISO 50.001 standard, from the production plant in General Lagos, province of Santa Fe, we contribute with the commitment to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions to continue creating chemistry for a sustainable future," explains André Cocenza, Site Manager of BASF's General Lagos and Tortuguitas plants in Argentina.
Cocenza adds: "This initiative is in line with our goals to increase the energy efficiency of South American plants by up to 15% by 2025 and with the global goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030."
In this way, the General Lagos production plant becomes the seventh BASF site in South America to receive the energy management certification, along with the plants in Brazil (Camacari, Demarchi, Guaratinguetá, Indaiatuba and Jacareí) and Chile (Concón).
The General Lagos plant, located on Provincial Route No. 21, Km No. 15, Santa Fe Province, houses the production of the Dispersions and Resins division, and the distribution center for crop protection products of the Agricultural Solutions division is located.
