Sherwin-Williams Launches New Aerospace Conductive Coating

Aeroespacial

United States. Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings added a new aerospace conductive coating (CM0485115) to its basecoat line, allowing aircraft owners to impart conductivity to aluminum substrates and composites.

According to the company, the coating offers high conductivity to non-conductive substrates by producing an antistatic conductive film on their surfaces with a resistivity of 0.1 to 100,000 ohms per square meter to help dissipate static charges from antennas and radomes.

In addition, the company notes that the coating is designed with excellent adhesion and offers excellent fluid resistance.

"The conductive coating (CM0485115) is designed to work with Sherwin-Williams finishing systems. Using a mixing ratio of 1:1, the product is easy to mix and apply," the company says.

According to this, the product is compatible with all non-electrostatic spraying equipment and can be applied on composite and aluminum substrates previously primed to achieve high conductivity.

This suggests that, for best results, the conductive coating should be applied in a single continuous closed film or in a cross layer.

Application can be performed in a wide range of environmental conditions and the coating can be air cured or forcibly dried, providing flexibility to applicators. Drying times vary depending on the thickness of the dry film.

"As composite substrates continue to gain popularity in the aerospace market, it is important that our customers have easy access to a robust conductive coating that can meet their needs for functionality, durability and ease of application," said Julie Voisin, director of the aerospace market segment, Original Equipment Manufacturer, Interior Finishing and Commercial Vehicles manufacturer.

"Our new conductive coating is a perfect complement to our product offering and our commitment to delivering high-performance products to the aerospace market," he said.
