International. Global paint and coatings manufacturer Jotun announced the completion of a major expansion of its global Intumescent Products R+D Laboratory to promote innovation and new product technologies.
The ambitious expansion more than doubles the size of Flixborough Global Intumescent's R+D facility, with the aim of increasing Jotun's product development and firetesting capacity and capabilities.
The new facility will accelerate the development of new innovations and more advanced products, while providing additional certification support to Jotun's existing product range.
Jotun is determined to gain market share in this industry by accelerating the development of new and advanced technologies. It aims to enter new markets through broader certification and customization of regional products in line with rapidly changing market requirements.
This ensures that your customers' assets are protected from fire to the latest regulatory requirements and that materials deliver high performance for your specific location.
It has now been expanded to 2,900 m2. The upgraded facility increases capacity and capacity for Jotun's continued development of intumescent fire protection coatings, SteelMaster for steel structures within the infrastructure market, and Jotachar for vital assets in the energy industries.
Supported by Jotun's R+D headquarters in Sandefjord, Norway, the enhanced global center in Flixborough will continue to focus on cutting-edge R+D projects, boosting intumescent coating technology.
In addition to the Global Intumescent Laboratory in Flixborough, Jotun has consolidated its commitment to localized innovation by ensuring that different environmental and certification requirements are met within each market.
Strategic investment in regional research, development and testing facilities for intumescent products covers Norway, the United Arab Emirates, China, Korea, the US and Malaysia.
Jotun's enhanced capabilities across its network of intumescent R+D facilities represent an important milestone in its drive to advance fire safety through research and development.
It is able to engage with fire protection authorities, global regulators and certification bodies and provide guidance on material testing, certification and performance.
A testament to this commitment was illustrated earlier this year when Jotun unveiled its latest advancement in intumescent coatings, Jotachar JF570 XT, an all-weather patent-pending intumescent coating designed to protect oil, gas and power facilities against fires and cryogenic spills, even in the most extreme environments.
James Irving, Intumescent Coatings R+D Manager, said, "When we opened the Global Intumescent R+D Center in 2016, our vision was a facility that could evolve to help our customers around the world as their structural fire protection requirements become more complex and regionalized."
"We are delighted with this significant expansion, more than doubling the size of our facility, we are now ready to further enable the development of coatings and fire protection technologies to meet these requirements," continued Irving.
"Our intumescent products R+D team is expanding rapidly. This new facility will allow our scientists, technicians and industry specialists to strengthen our position as global innovators in this safety-critical area of the coatings industry," said Irving.
"This expansion is a key part of Jotun's ambitious strategy to increase market share and increase sales of intumescent coatings by developing a global network of intumescent research and development facilities with Flixborough as the center," added Irving.
