International. AkzoNobel, BASF and IGL Coatings stood out for the latest developments at the largest trade fair in the automotive refinish industry.
The SEMA Show, which took place last week in Las Vegas, featured exhibitors from all aspects of the automotive refinish industry, including paints and coatings. Among them, AkzoNobel, BASF and IGL Coatings were present to show their latest developments.
AkzoNobel hosted a big show for SEMA, headlined by twice-daily autograph sessions with Dave Kindig, the star of the Motortrend Network show Bitchin' Rides and creator of custom car company Kindig-it Design.
The AkzoNobel booth showcased its Sikkens brand as well as Carbeat, AkzoNobel's digital body shop workflow solution.
Notably, AkzoNobel established two platforms with 4800 square feet of exhibit space, where Kindig showcased five of its unique vehicles: a 1969 Camaro, a 1971 Nova, and three of Kindig's 1953 Chevy Corvette CF1 Roadsters.
AkzoNobel also displayed a sixth car, a 1940 Ford owned by one of AkzoNobel's account representatives. The 1940 Ford is painted with Sikkens-finished paint.
"The SEMA Show is a special moment for us, and we are excited to showcase and contribute in many ways again this year," said AkzoNobel Regional Marketing Manager for the Americas, AkzoNobel Automotive & Specialty Coatings, John Eubanks, announcing AkzoNobel's plans during SEMA.
"Our relationship with Dave Kindig continues to grow and provides a real spark for us, and SEMA gives us the best opportunity to showcase how he uses our paintings to help create his masterpieces," added John Eubanks.
BASF also announced major plans during SEMA. The company showcased products from four of its paint lines: Glasurit, R-M, Limco and the newest paint line for North America, baslac.
Glasurit 100 Line, the most advanced water-based layer system on the market that BASF launched in 2020, was a particular highlight. In addition, BASF showcased its cloud-based Refinity platform.
In addition, BASF presented the BASF Achievement Award, which recognizes an individual whose hard work, dedication and commitment to high-level standards sets them apart from others in the industry. The Glasurit Best Paint Award, in which designer and Chip Foose and three-time winner Jonathan Goolsby of Goolsby Customs joined the BASF team to find the vehicle that best demonstrated the brilliance for which Glasurit is known.
"BASF is passionate about helping body shops succeed as different facets of the industry continue to evolve," said BASF Refinish Vice President Joel Johnson in announcing BASF's plans for SEMA.
"The launch of solutions like Glasurit 100 Line and Refinity means faster repairs, more advanced color matching and less waste. We encourage everyone at the fair to stop by our booth and learn more about each other," he said.
For IGL Coatings, SEMA offered the ideal opportunity to highlight its new Essentials product line. IGL reported that Essentials is a "greener and more simplified" version of its ecocoat series, which introduced its Kenzo, Quartz+, Quartz, Poly and EZ Spray products in 100ml sizes, rather than smaller sizes.
