PPG returns to command list of main companies of paints and coatings

Among the 75 companies profiled in the annual report of the most important companies in the paints and coatings industry undertaken by Coatings World magazine, based on annual sales in dollars (all have sales of US $ 100 million or more per year), PPG has recovered the first position occupied in last year's list by Sherwin Williams.

In 2021, this manufacturer of paints, coatings and special materials reached estimated revenues of US$13.8 billion.

In the magazine's interview with PPG President and CEO Michael H. McGarry, he acknowledged that last year presented multiple challenges: the current COVID-19 pandemic, global supply disruptions, raw material shortages, labor shortages, and unprecedented cost inflation.

However, it highlights the work of the organization's 50,000 employees worldwide to achieve 38% of sales of products with sustainable advantages, totaling approximately US$6.3 billion.

"While we made solid progress last year, I also recognize the many opportunities in front of us during this watershed moment to reverse the detrimental effects of climate change," McGarry said, referring to PPG's commitment to sustainability, which accounts for the 37.5 percent reduction in waste disposal intensity from a 2017 baseline. or that 40% of the locations have achieved zero waste status to landfill.

As novelties of this list, several companies that were part of it were eliminated from it this year; among them, Cromology (France), which was acquired by DuluxGroup of Nippon Paints; Karworwag (Germany) and Tikkurila (Finland), both acquired by PPG; as well as Industria Titan (Spain) and Pintuco (Colombia), acquired by AkzoNobel.

A new company was added: Avia Avian, based in Indonesia.
