Latin America. The value proposition of the National Association of Paint and Ink Manufacturers (Anafapyt) is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In a statement, Anafapyt reaffirmed its role in promoting positive changes that contribute to the continued growth, resilience and prosperity of the industry.
"As such, we are convinced that sustainability is vital to ensure such development and have initiated a media campaign to raise awareness among members and the general public about the importance of sustainability," the association states.
In that sense, he points out that the value proposition is not only to guarantee the access of future generations to a better quality of life, but also to promote the rational, responsible and safe use of resources as pillars of a solid corporate strategy in the medium and long term.
Hence, he argues that since 2020, the year of the arrival of the pandemic in both Latin America and Europe, "growth strategies have coexisted with COVID-19 and the measures taken to protect the health and employment of all can translate into some degree of prosperity under the 'new normal'."
Actions for a new normal
Among those actions to boost the construction of a sustainability strategy and agenda, Anafapyt addresses the boost of the industry's response to the pandemic, especially among SMEs in the region that face the crisis without any corporate support. This includes the construction and dissemination of a guide for the reopening of stores and other operations.
Added to this is the adoption of different SDG targets in its sustainability agenda, such as climate action (goal 13). In this regard, the association participates as an active stakeholder in the development of mandatory national standards and techniques, including limits on volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Among other approaches framed in these objectives, there is also responsible production and consumption (objective 12), as well as quality education (objective 4) from the Diploma in Painting Technology in partnership with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
On the other hand, advocating for and achieving a mandatory national ban on the use of lead in architectural coatings and consumer products is linked to Goal 3 of good health and well-being.
Likewise, in the search for sustainable cities and communities (objective 11) energy consumption statistics are provided for the reduction by application of coatings with high solar reflectivity.
These issues will have to be addressed in the next Latin American Coating Show, the international exhibition of supply for the paints, inks and coatings industry in Latin America promoted by Anafapyt, which returns in person this July 26, 27 and 28 at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City.
