United States. Sherwin-Williams announced that Alabaster (SW 7008), a symbolic shade about a new beginning, is the color of the year 2016.
"Alabaster represents a simple and necessary change for mindfulness, wellness and an atmosphere that is pure," said Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. "It provides an oasis of calm, spirituality and a visual relief of 'less is more'. Alabaster is neither too rigid nor too hot, but rather a discreet and attractive shade of white."
Color stimulates a time to relax and re-examine, at times when people are faced with excess and clutter. A conscious and rejuvenating atmosphere created by color is suitable for commercial and residential environments.
Drawn from Pura Vida, one of four palettes in Sherwin-Williams' 2016 colormix, Alabaster represents the prominent use of light, which is a key element to traditional Nordic design. It also pairs nicely with other more popular Scandinavian décor influences, including sleek lines, copper metallic finishes, marble, and wood grain materials.
