International. AkzoNobel's annual Global Trend Study chose gold as the color of the year for 2016. The color was chosen by a special independent panel of guest design and color experts to spearhead the company's color trend guide called ColourFutures.
ColourFutures highlights the company's colour knowledge and is used by experts in architecture, fashion, beauty and interior decoration to help keep your work fresh and contemporary.
"Color is an integral part of our business and sharing our knowledge with people around the world means everyone can be inspired and benefit from its transformative impact," said Ruud Joosten, AkzoNobel Executive Committee Member responsible for decorative paints. "Studying global color and design trends also allows us to be at the forefront of what consumers want."
Now in its 13th year, ColourFutures 2016 focuses on an overarching theme – looking both ways – with gold identified as the colour that best connects all the key trends for the coming year.
"Gold exemplifies the overarching theme of duality," explained Heleen van Gent, Director of AkzoNobel's Center for Global Aesthetics. "It's bright enough to attract attention, while subtly referring to history and heritage. Therefore, it represents a fusion of our past, our present and our future."
The study was developed by the company's Center for Global Aesthetics in conjunction with leading design and color experts from around the world, who conducted detailed research on social and design trends globally. The studio grew out of a multitude of influences, from fine art to technology, nature design, architecture, fashion, music and popular culture.
