Spain. PPG Industries announced a US$3.8 million expansion of its coatings manufacturing facility in Laguna de Duero, Valladolid. The investment provides a new mixing equipment at the facility that will support an 80% increase in annual coating production capacity for automotive parts and industrial applications.
"With strong growth in the automotive industry, the expansion of the Valladolid facility and increased production capacity demonstrates PPG's commitment to supporting its automotive customers in Europe," said Jean-Marie Greindl, PPG representative.
"The expansion leverages PPG's technical and color expertise to create a center of excellence in Valladolid, where we will use innovative manufacturing technologies to maintain the delivery of high-quality coatings to our customers," said Miguel Angel Juarez, PPG plant manager in Valladolid and Valencia.
The additional capacity will allow the company to meet the growing demand for its automotive paints from manufacturers in the region. The investment funds the development of the company's first full dispensing manufacturing cell, which automates coating formulas to improve product consistency, shorter production times and shorter cycle delivery times for customers. At the Valladolid plant, they employ about 200 people.
