Brazil. Conama Resolution No. 469/2015 modifies the resolution dealing with construction waste management (307/2002). The new text classifies paint packaging as Class B recyclable waste.
The proposed amendment was tabled by Abrafati, who defended technical studies demonstrating the non-dangerousness of these materials. With consistent arguments and a work that took into account the recommendations of the experts of the Technical Chambers of Conama, the change in the plenary body was approved at the end of May.
"It was a great achievement for the sector, for which Abrafati worked hard. The legal text has been improved, becoming increasingly clear to users and allowing the painting industry to have all the conditions, both technical and legal, so that the packaging can be designed together with the rest of the non-dangerous packaging. This facilitates compliance with the principles of sustainability and the requirements of the National Solid Waste Policy," said Gisele Bonfim, Technical and Environmental Affairs Director at Abrafati.
