International. Astm's new international standard describes a "rub solvent" technique that can be used in the laboratory, field or manufacturing shop for the evaluation of the solvent resistance of an organic coating that chemically and/or physically changes during the curing process.
The approved method is known as ASTM D 7835. According to association member Ted Best, the coil coated metals that are covered in the new standard are used in many markets, such as metal buildings, cladding, roofing, moldings, appliances, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Best also noted that the use of the standard is not limited to the coil coating industry.
In addition, the standard is used to measure the accuracy of this method compared to the manual method, which is described in ASTM D5402, Method for Assessing Solvent Resistance of Organic Coatings Using Rubs Solvent.
