Raw materials from renewable sources

The use of seeds and plants for the extraction of compounds used in the formulation of raw materials is no longer a dream. Polyols, resins, glycerin and other products extracted from natural and renewable sources that have a lower environmental impact are currently available. Hugo de Notta, president of the Society of Argentine Coating Technicians, Sater, explains the characteristics of these products.

Brazil: we are coming out of the crisis

The consolidation of Brazil's paint and coatings industry is evident. In recent years, the main suppliers of raw materials for the industry have opted for this country as a center of operations for Latin America, in addition to the fact that its per capita consumption of paints is the highest in the region. Commodity prices

After the instability in commodity prices that occurred during the second half of 2008, suppliers have seen a slow stabilization of the market. In general, there have been some increases, especially in solvents and some additives; however, the percentages are not alarming and seem to correspond to the usual market phenomena and the law of supply and demand.

Architectural: they are committed to stability

The goal for this year will not be to grow or improve the figures of 2008, in the segment of architectural paintings stability will be the key word, because the difficult economic moment will maintain for a long time the uncertainty about the future of the industry in Latin America.

Home paints will depend in large quantities on the behavior in the construction sector, because if the latter goes ahead, the effect of the recession will not be so painful because there was a continuous production for an important market. But at the same time, this becomes the main threat and therefore they estimate zero growth for 2009.
