United States. The AquaEC Flex Broad Bake e-coat from coatings company Axalta Coating Systems received the BIG Innovation Award 2023, presented by Business Intelligence Group (BIG).
The annual business awards program recognizes organizations, products and individuals who bring new ideas to life in innovative ways.
Axalta Chief Technology Officer Robert Roop commented, "Axalta is proud to receive this award that further demonstrates the continued innovation and performance of our products."
"We are constantly innovating for our customers. Increased demand for electric vehicles drove the need for a more sustainable e-coat that is applied with uniform thickness over complex vehicle designs, while maintaining manufacturing productivity," Roop said.
"Our innovation ensures that the critical parts that carry and protect battery packs are heat-cured with the rest of the body structure, allowing automakers to co-produce electric vehicles and internal combustion vehicles on the same manufacturing line," added Axalta's chief technology officer.
In addition to advanced curing properties, AquaEC Flex enables improved appearance, better edge corrosion protection and greater flexibility, allowing the coating to provide outstanding protection in complex electric vehicle body designs that are exposed to temperature and humidity variations over the life of the vehicle's battery.
