International. The paint manufacturer was certified by recording significant carbon reductions and offsets over a 12-month period.
PT Mowilex receives its fourth consecutive CarbonNeutral certification from Climate Impact Partners, completing Scope 1, 2 and 3 assessments following the Global Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
Mowilex, which manufactures premium paints, wood coatings and building coverings, is Indonesia's first carbon-neutral manufacturer.
Mowilex also operated multiple facilities while moving into a new energy-efficient Cikande factory that will eventually reduce the company's carbon footprint by up to 7%. Residual emissions are offset by carbon credits.
Last month, Mowilex installed a solar canopy that is expected to permanently reduce carbon emissions at the company's headquarters by up to 30%.
The panels shade cars while producing the maximum solar output allowed by current state power company regulations.
"Our fourth consecutive Climate Impact Partners carbon-neutral company certification demonstrates Mowilex's commitment to the environment and society. As an ethical company, we know that the hidden costs of pollution outweigh the challenges and costs of doing the right thing," said PT Mowilex Indonesia CEO Niko Safavi.
Mowilex's Chief Sustainability Officer Tania Wakhidah Ariningtyas said: "By reducing emissions at home, Mowilex is helping Indonesia achieve the goals of 25% renewable energy by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions by 2060."
"We also support carbon reduction efforts in developing countries, through two projects certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change," he added.
Dave Jonas, Climate Services Manager at SCS Global Services, said: "The fourth year of Mowilex's carbon neutral company certification demonstrates their continued leadership in the sustainability space, as they dedicate themselves each year to denying their carbon footprint with offset projects that benefit the environment."
"While we are proud to be the first manufacturing business certified as carbon neutral in our market, we are also thrilled to see paint startups outline zero-emission strategies. We hope that legacy companies will also follow our lead. To create lasting change, we must all put the environment first," Safavi added.
