International. Dürr announced that its 13,000th robot manufactured will be installed in a new paint shop for General Motors located in Changwon, Korea. This is the first installation of the new generation of Dürr robots for GM and is part of the largest order awarded to Dürr to date in Korea.
The 13,000th robot manufactured by Dürr is an EcoRP E043i, and will be used to paint the interior of passenger cars at GM in Changwon. This anniversary robot is special to Dürr for many reasons: it is the first time GM will use Dürr's third-generation robots.
The equipment for the new paint shop, the construction of which was commissioned to Dürr, includes a total of 78 third-generation robots. In addition, the total order is also the largest Dürr has received to date as a general contractor in Korea. The GM plant is scheduled to come online in 2021 and paint the new Chevrolet Spark and compact SUVs using the 3-wet painting system.
The EcoRP E043i and 033i paint robots will paint the inside and outside of vehicle bodies in Changwon. Seven-axis robots with the latest EcoBell3 spray technology will paint vehicle body interiors with extremely high precision and flexibility. Thanks to the improvement of their mobility they can reach places of difficult access without effort. The exteriors will be painted with six-axis robots.
The interaction of the dosing pump, color change, sprayer and spray cleaning device ensures fast and efficient color changes in as little as 15 seconds, reducing paint loss and consumption of washing products when changing color.
