Latin America. At Abrafati 2019, Orion Engineered Carbons unveiled to the Latin American market the highest carbon black available. A post-finished black furnace, Color Black FW 310 is an excellent choice for OEM car base layers, finishing coatings and high-end industrial applications.
"The Color Black FW 310 is a breakthrough for the industry as it offers the highest jetness values on the market," said Carlos Hernandez, Technical Market Manager, Coatings, Americas. "It can help designers reach new levels of black that were previously unattainable."
"Color Black FW 310 offers similar performance in both water-based and solvent-based coatings," Hernandez said. "Coating producers can buy a single quality for both systems. In fact, they can achieve similar results in applications like automotive OEM and finishing that require different solvents."
Orion's tests on a water-based one-component polyurethane system and a solvent-based two-component polyurethane system show that Color Black FW 310 has higher jetness (MY) values than the company's previous premium product, which is roughly comparable to the premium carbon black competition. In the systems tested, jetness increased approximately 10 points (MY) depending on the formulation. Equally important is that it imparts the same bluish hue, about 11.0 dM, as the previous high jet grades.
