International. With the growing popularity of transparent, large and panoramic surface roofs in the automotive industry, the demand for lightweight, high-performance polycarbonates is growing. Polycarbonates are not only used in the ceiling itself, but also in columns and exterior finishes.
Covestro LLC polycarbonates in combination with siloxane coatings provide excellent properties, including transparency, high impact resistance and design freedom for these applications.
Now, Covestro has introduced a new polycarbonate that meets the changing needs of the automotive industry. Designed for automotive outdoor applications, Makrolon AX was developed to meet color homogeneity and surface quality requirements.
Covestro developed "cool black" colors to help keep the polycarbonate surface cool. The reduction in surface temperature extends the life part, considerably increasing the weathering performance. While standard black colors absorb infrared (IR) radiation causing the component to heat up, cool black colors allow IR to be transmitted through the part, resulting in prolonged coating performance.
