Learn, teach and be happy

altJuan Román Jasinski assures that the coatings market is a world that he is passionate about, especially when talking about powder paints, a subject that he carries in his veins and in which he sails like a fish in water.

In a fifth house, large and full of green spaces, lives the chemical engineer Juan Román Jasinski, along with his wife Cristina, with whom he shares his life since 1974; his daughter Carolina, his son-in-law Juan, "is also called Juan", says the engineer; and with Santiago and Pedro, his grandchildren of six and three years. There they all live together, even sharing their days with 17 dogs that the family picked up from the street, two cats and a few chickens.

Jasinski, who is manager of the Powder Paints Division of the Riopint company, clarifies that in a short time there will be fewer inhabitants in his home. "My daughter, her husband and grandchildren are hoping to move into their own house that is under construction."

He is the eldest of three children born into a family that immigrated to Argentina from Poland after World War II. He currently resides in the city of Del Viso north of Buenos Aires.

This 61-year-old Argentine, born in the city of La Plata, is our guest to make a well-deserved presence in the Professional of the Month section, as he was also recently appointed as the new president of the Argentine Society of Coating Technicians (Sater).

And it is precisely in that market where Jasinski has developed his professional and work life with many successes and recognitions. Since he graduated from the National Technological University as a Chemical Engineer nothing like a fish in the water in this industry.

"In January 1969 I began my career in this industry in the laboratories of what was, at that time, the second paint company in Argentina, Colorín. There I worked in the laboratory of automotive paints for terminals, and then I was transferred to the laboratory of industries in general, where I developed the line of polyurethane paints. I then moved on to A.W. Faber Arg., where I was in charge of the pencil painting line and all the production of paints for that purpose. I also took care of setting up a control laboratory and a productive purchasing office. Later I returned to the painting industry and worked in several companies, including Sherwin Williams Argentina.", says the professional.

A step to powder coatings
In 1985 Juan Román joined the company Ferro Enamel Argentina, a subsidiary of Ferro Corp., where he was called and trained abroad to work specifically with a powder coating project.

For the engineer this work is a passion, "I like the subject of coatings from the first day of work in Colorín, and little by little it was getting into my veins. The most interesting thing that has happened to me is precisely to have been involved with the powder coating segment, it is an area that I am still passionate about and from that moment until today I am involved in this specialty".

Such has been the path traveled by Juan Román, who now serves as division manager of powder coatings at the firm Riopint. There he is in charge of the management of the laboratory, the elaboration, the logistics and the sales of the business. He is proud of his achievements and does not hesitate to continue receiving learning every day, preparing is one of his daily goals and sharing knowledge with future generations is his purpose.

He feels like a lucky and happy man, and he hopes to continue to feel that way. "Personally my expectations are and continue to be to lead my life as I lead it until today, to continue to be happy with my family and to be able to enjoy everything I have," he says.

One more achievement adds to his list of goals achieved, recently Jasinski was appointed as president of the Argentine Society of Coating Technicians (Sater). "The appointment comes to me at a time in my life in which I find myself with all the batteries charged, I have the life and work experience that will allow me to make that wonderful institution continue to grow as it has been doing for more than ten years of existence," says the professional.

X-ray of the market
It is not free that this engineer enjoys a privileged position in the market of paints and coatings of the South American country, because with his head held high he has faced the challenges that the industry has presented him in all areas of his life.

He assures that this is precisely the secret he keeps, his "Ace up his sleeve" when it comes to fulfilling his dreams. "I think that accepting absolutely all the challenges and, within my means, having been able to carry them out in my own way, made it possible for me to sustain myself for the more than 40 years in this environment."

It also recommends that the best way to stay current is to be constantly updated on what you have learned. "One of the keys to growth is not to stop learning something every day, never consider that you learned absolutely everything and, most importantly, transmit everything you have learned to the young people who are going to replace us." That is perhaps what gives him so much authority when it comes to talking about the powder coating market in his country and in the Latin American region.

"The Latin American powder coating market is very well positioned worldwide, having two well-defined markets: there are the companies that have targeted the commodities or products of greater consumption, and those that are in the specialties, elaborating products tailored to their customers. The two variants are made with state-of-the-art technology, both production and formulation, since our suppliers, being multinational companies fundamentally, have us up to date with all developments and trends, "he says.

In what has to do with the decline in the current economic dynamics, the engineer explains that it is necessary to reinforce the commercialization of powder paints by increasing their added value through ingenuity and creativity, because in favor of this material is the ecological component and the great developments that are advanced at this level.

"We must seek the replacement of systems that use non-renewable petrochemicals (solvents), have responsible waste management, look for new forms of production, use all new developments in polymers to achieve increasingly resistant films without losing the classic characteristics of hardness and flexibility achieved until today, trying to lower the current curing temperatures, to reduce fuel consumption and/or heat generation".

Juan Román Jasinski assures that his life is happy, and he hopes to keep it as it is for many more years. Finally, it invites all professionals in the sector to actively participate in all the activities that concern this market to feed it and make it grow.
