An industry that breathes optimism

These days the American HVAC/R industry breathes optimism. We recently received a report that, according to a survey conducted by International Exposition Co., the firm that organizes and operates the AHR Expo show, 72% of the more than 1,000 HVAC/R manufacturers surveyed expect an improvement in industry numbers for the first quarter of 2010, at which point a reactivation in customer orders is estimated.

Such optimism is accentuated by the expectations of the majority of the industrial world that already raises voices for a progressive improvement in the economy. However, we will have to pay special attention to what will happen in Latin America and if the conditions will be conducive so that the projections are also reflected in our market.

This arises because it was never possible to determine with certainty what the real impact of the economic crisis in Latin America had been. In the case of the last global crisis, the region has felt the consequences almost with a delayed effect, so it is not very easy to predict if emerging markets, like ours, will be part of that shopping party that American manufacturers expect for the first months of next year.

However, it is important to say that Latin American countries found ways to maintain economic dynamism even in the midst of the crisis. The growing purchase of solutions for the aftermarket or replenishments is proof of this.

Without being pessimistic, I really expect the Latino economy to enter the stage of economic reactivation almost simultaneously with the United States, in whose territory there was a 30% drop in the commercialization of air conditioning units, both window and independent, in regard to the first six months of this year. The bad run extended to Europe and Japan, although markets such as China and Australia presented positive figures.

In the inkwell we leave the volatility that oil prices are presenting, an element that has always been sensitive for the HVAC / R sector, mainly in countries that depend on this fuel for power generation.
