The alliances that serve

At the beginning of May, an event was announced that may have gone unnoticed by most people and that was the signing of a document of understanding between the IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) and the GCCA (Global Alliance for the Cold Chain, for its acronym in English).

A statement said the idea was for IIAR to become the world leader in generating information and support to seek a safer, more reliable and efficient use of natural refrigerants in industrial applications, in an initiative that primarily seeks to help end users have contact with technical experts and others.

On the occasion of the announcement, Bruce Badger, president of IIAR, commented that the UN estimates that about 40% of the food is lost in the world in the process that goes from harvest to consumption, as a result of an inefficient distribution network. Badger added that IIAR could help prevent inefficient practices that would lead to global famines, something we are not exempt from in Latin America.

A recommendation I always make is to stay informed and apply the good deeds of the developed markets, because in this way we can improve the Latin HVAC/R industry. What has been done between these two institutions is something that could be applied in the region, basically since the establishment of educational and informative alliances between manufacturers and large end users, whose 20% probably produces 80% of the food produced in the region.

To tell the truth, I do not know how much the alliance between the IIAR and the GCCA could impact Latin America –the first institution has held some meetings and programs in a Latin American chapter–, but it is certainly something that can be replicated and that will most likely lead to business opportunities, greater market share for those who dare and customer loyalty.

What do you think of the idea? I invite you to write to me commenting on your opinions on the matter.
